Migrating a UAE Logistics Platform to AWS

An on-premise tracking platform moved to a multi-availability-zone AWS architecture, cutting infrastructure cost by 41% while removing a single point of failure.

The challenge

The operator ran its consignment tracking platform on two ageing servers in a single rack. There was no tested disaster recovery, capacity had to be provisioned for peak, and a hardware failure during Ramadan peak season had already cost them a day of trading.

What we did

  • Assessed the existing workload, documented dependencies and set explicit recovery time and recovery point objectives with the client.
  • Designed a multi-AZ architecture with an application load balancer, autoscaling groups and a managed database with automated failover.
  • Codified the environment in Terraform so it could be rebuilt from scratch in a second region.
  • Migrated in stages behind a proxy, validating each service before switching traffic.
  • Established monitoring, budget alerting and a quarterly cost review.

The outcome

Cutover took eight minutes. Autoscaling replaced peak-provisioned hardware, reducing monthly infrastructure cost by 41%, and a documented, tested recovery procedure now restores service in under fifteen minutes.
